B-day special: Vijaya Nirmala

Vijaya Nirmala debuted to cinema with a Malayalam film ‘Bhargavi Nilayam’ starring Prem Nazeer. She shared screen space with prominent stars in South Indian cinema with ‘Panduranga Mahatyam’ starring NTR, ‘Budhimanthudu’ with ANR and also enacted with MGR and Sivaji Ganesan in Tamil.
After acting in super hit films, her aspiration to become a director got the better out of her job. She ventured into direction with ‘Kavita’ (Malayalam) made on a big budget of 3 Lakhs. Energized with the success talks, she stepped into Telugu making ‘Meena’, a celluloid version of a novel which became a super hit of the times. Then, she remade ‘Kavita’ in Telugu rendering a hat-trick hit.
She was an able director and churned out many 100 day hits like ‘Amayakudu Kadu Asadhyudu’, ‘Hema Hemilu’, ‘Mudu Puvvulu Aru Kayalu’, ‘Ram Robert Raheem’ (remake of ‘Amar Akbar Anthony’), ‘Doctor Cine Actor’, ‘Antham Kadidi Arambam’, ‘Bejawada Bebbuli’, ‘Sahasame Na Upiri’, ‘Devadasu’. Till now she has made about 46 films with 20 of them being made on her home production. ‘Neramu Siksha’, the upcoming film is her 46th directorial venture and her 50th film in combination with Krishna (as hero and heroine). The movie is slated for a release on 31st May which is the birth date of actor Krishna.
Albeit she was an actress during the beginning of her career, Vijaya Nirmala was allured towards direction and is one satisfied woman nearing her half century mark. The filmmaker’s dream is to make 100 films in her career and leave her trail in cinema.
Vijaya Nirmala is exalted with happiness this birthday as her husband superstar Krishna has been awarded with Padma Bhushan, NTR National Award and a doctorate recently.
We wish the best of success for the filmmaker’s future endeavors and wish a very happy birthday.
